Event Type Hike and plein air drawing class Description This class is for students of all ages focusing on drawing in the Hudson Highlands at Northgate (the old Cornish estate). Students will be instructed to create observational drawings at the site. Instruction will include pencil types and their uses, shading, blending and how to build a drawing. This class will also include history about Thomas Cole and the Hudson River School. All drawing materials will be provided & no experience necessary! This class will meet at 9:30 AM at the Hudson Highlands State Park Parking Lot, across from Little Stony Point (3007 Bear Mountain-Beacon Hwy, Cold Spring, NY 10516). We will hike up to the Cornish Estate together and learn how to draw, and then have a picnic lunch break around 12. We will continue drawing until we hike back to the parking lot at 2:30 with our masterpieces. Thom Johnson is a lifetime resident of the Hudson Valley who has used ruins as inspiration for much of his work. Thom was the Art Teacher for the Irvington High School for over 30 years.
