Details

Event Type Historic waterfront tour Description Rondout Creek was a major industrial port for most of the 19th and early 20th centuries. After the opening of the Delaware & Hudson Canal in 1828, the village of Rondout boomed with barges, passenger steamboats, tugboats, shipbuilding, and the transportation of coal from Pennsylvania and locally produced bluestone, natural cement, bricks, natural ice, and more. As we cruise up Rondout Creek from the Hudson River Maritime Museum, you will learn about the industrial history of the area. Your knowledgeable tour guide will point out the remnants of historic structures such as Island Dock, the Wurts Street suspension bridge, railroad bridge, sunken barges, illustrated with historic images. In addition, your guide will discuss modern industrial activity, including the history of Feeney Shipyard and the various marinas along the creek. Don't miss this unique opportunity to see this historic port from the water! Organization Hosting the Event Hudson River Maritime Museum
