Event Type Walk/Hike Description Green, open space for recreation in a city - this may not seem like such a novel idea to 21st century Americans. And yet, 114 years ago, Prospect Park was just that. Designed in 1903 by the first black graduate of RPI, Garnet Douglas Baltimore, it quickly became a much-needed respite from the industrial urban environment of the city open to all citizens and available in all seasons. It quickly became the site of memorable family, sporting and community events that continue today. Using historic images, Rensselaer County & Troy City Historian Kathy Sheehan will lead a historic tour through the park that was known as Warren Hill, we will see the Wesley Bintz swimming pool and the famous overlook.
