Lyndhurst Landscape Ramble

Detailed Times/Hours: Ramble tickets may be purchased in advance through the website- lyndhurst.org. Lyndhurst Grounds are open 9:30 am - 4:30 pm. Guided Mansion tours require separate tickets for entry.

This two-hour, two-mile ramble offers a complete overview of Lyndhurst’s historic landscape. This 67-acre Lower Westchester site reflects 180 years of grand estate living on the Hudson River. Visitors will stroll past specimen trees, including the majestic lindens for which the property was named, then walk through the Lord & Burnham greenhouse frame, rose and fern gardens, and enter the ruined swimming pool building. Walk along restored pathways to historic rockeries with spectacular views of the Hudson River. The tour culminates inside the 1894 bowling pavilion with an exhibit dedicated to two women philanthropists.

Walking Tour of Public Art in Poughkeepsie, NY

Detailed Times/Hours: The guided walking tour is two hours. a leisurely walk covering only a few blocks in downtown Poughkeepsie. The group meets at 10am in front of the Cunneen Hackett theater at 12 Vassar St. One half block north of Main St. Please call to reserve your spot in advance 845-505-3123 or email Francpalaia1@gmail.com. All sites are wheelchair accessible.

This is a 2 hour guided walking tour led by noted artist and muralist, FRANC PALAIA of public art in Poughkeepsie, NY. The leisurely tour includes over 45 indoor and outdoor murals, sculptures, historical monuments, architecture in a three block area of downtown Poughkeepsie. The tour highlights several New Deal era murals commissioned by FDR, large scale contemporary murals, 9/11 and Vietnam monuments, one sculpture park and several very new graffiti style street art wall works. The tour ends in restaurant row on Main St Poughkeepsie where several new gourmet and ethnic restaurants have opened. The tour group can stay for lunch or coffee, a great opportunity to review and discuss the tour with the guide. A restaurant stop is not part of the tour, only a suggested option.

Join us from Noon to 4:00 pm at the Pruyn House, the historic home of Casparus Pruyn and Cultural Center for the Town of Colonie, for an Old Fashioned Sunday. This free event features “old tyme” demonstrations of blacksmithing, tin smithing, sheep shearing, weaving, honey extraction, and more! Vendor booths featuring jams, maple syrup, crafts, and honey, will be in and around the 1850 Buhrmaster Barn. Children will be entertained by Phyllis Chapman, the “school marm,” telling stories in an original one-room schoolhouse; old-fashioned games; a magician; and a wizard. The House, Carriage House and the Tool Museum will be open for tours hosted by costumed docents. Music by the Colonie Town Bands and the Tri-County Banjo Band. Come and join us for this festive fall event!

Guided Tour of the D&H Canal Five Lock Walk

Come to the D&H Canal Museum in High Falls and take a free guided tour of the national historic landmark Five Lock Walk. See five restored locks from the final 1850 enlargement of the D&H Canal, the first million dollar private enterprise in US history. The Canal ran for 108 miles from Honesdale PA to Rondout NY to bring coal from Carbondale PA to NYC, running from 1828 through 1898. The Canal fueled the industrial revolution in America and helped make NYC the world's largest city. It informed the 19C history of all the towns along its route. Approximately 1/2 mile.

Parking is free and admission is donation based. Proceeds benefit the Shaker Heritage Society and our mission to revitalize this historic land.

Harvest Hunt is a self-guided outdoor scavenger hunt among the painted leaves and last blooms of summer for decorated pumpkins that tell the story of "A Day in the Life at Locust Grove in 1901!" Maps in hand, kids and caregivers will delight in the decorated pumpkins and educational signage with historic photos, maps, and information about the people who lived and worked here, the trees and flowers that grew here, and the animals, both domesticated and wild that contributed to the estate's rich history. Imagine a pumpkin rooster, fawn, Carriage Driver, Carriage, Cook, and more!
