During the 18th century 14 percent of all the world’s wrought iron was being produced in the American colonies. In this Hudson River Ramble event discover the rich history of ironworking and iron production in the Hudson Highlands. Learn how items like the chain that crossed the Hudson were created, see historic pieces/artifacts, and experience a live blacksmithing demonstration. All ages are welcome. FREE PROGRAM. Program will begin with a lecture/tour of some museum pieces and history of local Ironworking history, brief walk to a iron mine, and a 30 minute live blacksmith demonstration.

The 16th Annual Newburgh Open Studios tour offers a unique opportunity to see the work and meet many of the artists in the City of Newburgh's burgeoning arts community. The studios are located in some amazing historic buildings, most of which are rarely open to the public. This is a self-guided tour, much of it walkable from Newburgh Art Supply. This year's tour is dedicated to its late founder, Gerardo Castro. Maps will be available on both days starting at 10:00am at Newburgh Art Supply, 5 Grand Street.

Detailed Times/Hours: BE A PART OF THE GARDEN SHOWCASE: Are you a gardener or do you know someone who has a beautiful garden space in Newburgh? Gardening is a great way to beautify our city and a great way to connect with neighbors and become a part of a larger community. If this sounds like you please enter the Archotber Newburgh Garden Showcase for a chance to win a $250 gift certificate to Devitt’s Nursery & Garden Supply! WHAT IS A GARDEN: A garden can be in a front-yard, on a streetscape, in a backyard, in pots on a porch, in a public space, by a business, or on a rooftop. EXHIBITION: The Garden Showcase will be exhibited at the Newburgh Free Library from September 25th- October 31st. This is also the second year that we will partner with The Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands Garden Tour. If a house appears on the Garden Tour then it will automatically be entered into the Garden Showcase in the autumn. HOW TO ENTER: BEFORE SEPT. 1, 2026, Fill out the form at the bottom. The Archtober Newburgh Garden Showcase is an exhibition of gardens large and small from around the city of Newburgh. The exhibition will go up in the front lobby of the Newburgh Free Library at the end of September and remain until the end of Archtober. People submit their own gardens or nominate gardens that they appreciate. This exhibit enables people in our city to appreciate the beauty that their neighbors all around the city have created.
