Event Type Walk/Hike Description Explore the sites associated with Samuel Wilson, aka Uncle Sam. In 1961 President John F. Kennedy declared that Troy was the official home of Uncle Sam, and that Samuel Wilson was the progenitor of our nation's symbol. As we explore the historic district we will explore this fascinating story of the man and the legend. Sites include Samuel Wilson's home and site of the meat packing plant that made him famous during the War of 1812, as well as the Uncle Sam statue and related sites associated with Uncle Sam!
