Event Type Hudson River Estuary Exploration/Environmental Education Description Tour Rondout Creek Aboard Solaris: a 100% Solar Powered Boat Built by the Hudson River Maritime Museum! Explore the many sights on Rondout Creek and learn about its rich past and connection to the Hudson River. For most of the 19th and early 20th centuries, the village of Rondout boomed with barges, passenger steamboats, tugboats, shipbuilding, as well as the transportation of coal from Pennsylvania, locally produced bluestone, natural cement, bricks, natural ice, and more. As we cruise up Rondout Creek, you will learn about the industrial history of the area and view impressive sights such as the remnants of historic structures including Island Dock, the Wurts Street suspension bridge, railroad bridge, and the locations of sunken barges. In addition, your guide will show you the sites of modern industrial activity, including the Feeney Shipyard and various marinas along the creek, while explaining their unique histories and current uses.
