Event Type Walk/Hike Description Sunday, September 16, 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.: Hudson River Valley Ramble: Remote and Outback Hike at Minnewaska: Roughin’ It with an Interpretive Guide Itching for an epic, all day ten-mile hike? Want to explore paths near gurgling streams, find secret, scenic views and discover waterfalls? Join Stefan Ramirez, Student Conservation Association/AmeriCorps Intern for the hike of your life, as we trek along multiple trails at Minnewaska State Park Preserve. We’ll start our journey walking down the Mossy Glen Footpath, a tranquil and serene trail along the Peter’s Kill stream. Next, we will hike up the Blueberry Run Footpath, all the way to Castle Point. The vista here overlooks the entire Hudson Valley, and offers glimpses of Lake Awosting, the largest and most pristine of the five sky lakes found in the Shawangunks. Then, we’ll continue along the Castle Point Carriage Road to the Rainbow Falls Footpath trailhead. From here, we will hike the Rainbow Falls Footpath, stopping at various, scenic spots, including Rainbow Falls. After this, we will arrive at the Lower Awosting Carriage Road, where we will briefly walk to Lake Awosting and take in the long view of the Lake from north to south. Next, we will walk back up Lower Awosting to the Jenny Lane Footpath trailhead. This quiet and forested trail will take us to a fork in the road, where we will hike down another part of the Blueberry Run Footpath, eventually reaching the Peter’s Kill stream again. After crossing a rustic wooden bridge over the Peter’s Kill, we will walk back on Mossy Glen Footpath to the Awosting Parking lot. This is an all-day hike and guests should come prepared by bringing plenty of food, water and proper hiking gear. Pre-registration is required by calling Minnewaska State Park Preserve directly at 845-255-0752.
