The Hudson River Valley has been inhabited for more than ten thousand years. Learn about the Indigenous Lenape people, their history, and how they interacted with the landscape. Learn about what happened before and after first contact with Europeans, when Europeans colonized the region, the Lenape diaspora, and about the Lenape people who still live and work in the Hudson Valley. Questions and conversation encouraged. Harv Hilowitz is a historian of Indigenous and Hudson Valley history and a contributing scholar to the Hudson River Maritime Museum.
